  • Towing Clearance Between 5th Wheel Trailer and the Back of a 1998 Ford F-250 Short Bed
  • I have included a picture that should help. When the trailer is coupled to the truck there should be 16 to 24 inches between the bumper of the truck and the trailer. If you are at the lower end of the range or just want peace of mind that clearance will not be an issue at the back of the truck I recommend an adapter with an offset, # AM3139, which has 8 inches of offset. An offset adapter like the Ranch Hitch listed above will provide more clearance between the truck bumper and the trailer...

  • Will Erickson Truck Bed Ladder Rack EM07705 Install Over Plastic Rail Caps on 1999 Ford F-150
  • Erickson's Truck Bed Ladder Rack # EM07705 has an 800-lb load rating so a 24-foot extension ladder (about 55 to 65-lbs typically) will be no issue at all. It sounds like you have 1/4-inch plastic rail caps on your 1999 F-150. These should not pose any problem for installing this rack system. We often see folks using racks like this installed over rail caps.

  • Can a 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 with 4.6 Liter Motor Tow a 5,000 Pound Trailer
  • A 5,000 pound trailer should not be a problem for your 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 with the 4.6 liter motor. Based on some of the information I could find on the truck it does have more than enough capacity for this trailer. But to be sure you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual because there are several possible configurations of the truck and each has a different towing capacity. Whether or not you need weight distribution will depend on a couple of things. First, if the gross trailer...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Rails for a 1997 Ford F-150
  • To add a set of 5th wheel rails and brackets to a 1997 Ford F-150 super cab, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit item # C16437-204. This kit is custom fit and installs in existing holes in your trucks frame. These rails have a carbide black finish and are compatible with Curt 5th wheel hitches. Something to note from Curt, you will not be able to use the lowest setting on your sliding hitch with this rail kit or any of the available rail kits. To make towing with...

  • How to Determine Gross Trailer Weight Rating for 1999 Ford F-150 with 5.4L V8 Engine
  • Thank you for providing a photo of your 1999 F-150's door jamb sticker. Usually the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of the truck and a hitched trailer is also shown here, along with the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) - 6050-lbs in your case. Determining maximum towable trailer weight is usually then a simple matter of subtracting the GVWR from the GCWR. The difference in these two weights is the maximum trailer weight the truck can tow. I checked a few Ford F-150 owner's forums...

  • Dimensions and Recommendations for a 5th Wheel Trailer to Gooseneck Hitch Adapter
  • At the absolute most narrow point the adapter is about 9-1/2 inches in circumference and about 3-1/2 inches in diameter. The overall height at 16 inches is actually about 17-1/2 inches from the bottom of the adapter to the top where it attaches to the trailer. To find the correct height you will need, first park the truck and trailer on level ground. Make sure you have 4 inches of clearance between the top of the bed sides and the bottom of the trailer loft for pitch and roll. Then, measure...

The 2 sets that are at the end of the hitch are 33-11/16 inches apart on center. Front to back, the two closest holes are just a hair under 2-1/2 inches apart on center. From the middle hole to the furthest away hole on center it is just a hair over 11-1/8 inches. I have included a link to the installation instructions for...

  • Rearmost Bolt Hole Dimensions for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 1999 Ford F-250
  • It is true that the center of the rearmost bolt holes for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14355 measure 32-11/16" on center, but since these bolt holes are oblong this trailer hitch will still fit your 1999 Ford F-250. If you note in the attached photo I show that the oblong holes range from about 32-1/8" at the closest part to about 35" at the the furthest part. Since your frame measures 32-11/16" it will fit just fine as the bolts you use for the installation are 1/2" bolts.
